The day started with tears, the smell of spring flowers, and a dark room.
Rosalee was sitting on her bed, body numb, eyes puffy from crying, and brain void of emotion as she stared off into space. The scene is on repeat in her head:
"Ms. Mescudi? Sorry if I called at the wrong time, but I have some tragic news. You were the last person that James Watson called on this line, so I feel that you should be told first. Today, at 6:45 pm, James Watson jumped off the prison and committed suicide. I'm sorry to tell you, but I'm just the messenger..."

Rosa was tired. Tired of being sad. Tired of being the recipient of bad news. Tired of the ones that she loved either hating her or just... dying...
She didn't know it was possible to have such bad luck with everything. Her life continued to fall apart around her, and no matter what she did, no matter how hard she tried to pick up the pieces, it wouldn't stop. She just needed to escape.
Slowly, Rosa developed a plan. She quickly got into the shower, getting out of the clothes she wore for the last 36 hours, brushed her teeth, and put on a t-shirt and jeans. Then, she was struck by the thought of work.
"Fuck it," she said as she ran out of her house and rode the elevator to the top floor of Castle Apartments. When she got off the elevator, she went towards the fire escape, and went up to the roof of the apartment building, and just stared at the sky. It was still morning, and the sun wasn't in the sky completely, but Rosa didn't let that bother her. She went towards the edge, and looked down. Up here, she was like a god. No one was really out, but Rosa felt that instead of watching her own life crumble, she'd watch others, just for a day.
----------------------------------------------
A few hours passed, and Rosa was still on top of the world. She saw someone miss the bus. She saw someone get yelled at. She saw someone run out of gas. She didn't know why, but she was getting a kick out of watching others fail. Suddenly, she saw Spartacus Moore walk past the apartments, and decided to see how his day would fall apart...
----------------------------------------------
Quickly becoming bored with Spartacus Moore, Rosa turned her attention to the bus stop where she saw Kindra Lee and Spring Patterson talking about only God knows what.
"Wait," Rosa thought, "I feel like a god. I should know what they're talking about!"
Quickly losing herself to her obsession to feel nothing, Rosa sat down on the roof of the Castle Apartments. She knew she couldn't hold off from crying any longer. She had to feel something or she was going to explode.
As if a switch clicked 'on' in her brain, tears started to fall from her eyes. All of a sudden, Rosalee Mescudi was crying, laughing, and yelling all at the same time.
"This 'vacation' idea was not the best thing I've ever thought of," she thought, "but at least it helped me heal, even if it is only temporary."
Rosa thought about all of the shit she went through this year. Moving to a new place but still having the past haunt her was not the best thing for her. She needed to really get away.
Running to the door, Rosa went back to her apartment and grabbed her phone and her wallet and ran to Old Johnny's.
When she grabbed what she needed, she threw money at the register and yelled, "Keep the change," at whoever was there. She needed to get home.
Upon entering her apartment, Rosa laughed. What she was about to do was life changing. She went into the bathroom and opened the box that read '#74 Copper Shimmer'. She was really about to change herself.
---------------------------------------------
Rosa looked in the mirror at her new hair. It was red, fiery, and looked dangerous. It made Rosa feel alive. Even a slight change to her eyebrows made her feel like she was on top of the world, but this made Rosa feel like she could do anything.
